And why I am falling behind in SKOTM. The answer: MUD. Not the kind of mud that I like to throw at my friends and slide all over in. I’m talking about those text based things where there are no graphics and you put in commands. To be more specific, this one: ACHAEA A few months ago I played a few, got extremely bored, and quit at the pathetic level of 10 or so. For whatever reason, last week, I decided to make a new character in one. I was immediately re-hooked and became an evil knight. Already I’ve gotten further than I did before. The one thing that I extremely like is the maturity. You really don’t have an opportunity to be immature, because it is all STRICTLY in-character. No OOC allowed, period. So basically, you have to act like you’re in a magical realm. The minimum age for your character is 18, therefore while there is some silliness in cities sometimes (example: “Whose falcon dropped panties on me?”, which I recently saw. The result was actually quite funny.) and among people you know, it’s kept very mature. No “lol” or “wtf”. To put it in simple terms, it’s freaking pwnage.
-DEBATE SECTION OMG-
Compare text based MUDs like Achaea (the above mentioned MUD) with graphic games like RuneScape or Guild Wars. Then argue over it. Kthxbai.

Hm. There’s a uniqueness to MUD’s that you can’t get with graphic games in the role playing aspect. RPG is much more emphasized in MUD’s because it’s all text. They both are MMO’s and they both have similar things such as quests, skills, items, etcetc. However, a MUD may be a little more complicated to navigate because is no graphical interface. Simply being said, because it’s more complicated, more mature people who can deal with the different aspects of MUD’s will play them. Both graphical games and MUD’s have their positives and negatives, and if you ask me to choose I wouldn’t be able to decide. While I love to role play and work through a storyline in MUD’s, I also do like graphics involved as well.
I sincerely applaud the buildgers of Achaea though. I played it a bit before and it is a VERY well written and vivid world. I tried building a MUD once ..I lost interest quickly. The buildgers of this MUD are well devoted.
Also, NUBFACE what client do you use? (If you don’t use MUSHClient you should now).
